The Lawnmower Trap is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw 3D.

Design and Function

The two victims of this trap were in a large room suspended several feet above the floor and had to cling onto two identical levers hanging from the ceiling across from each other. Both levers were covered with metal barbs, which dug into the hands of the people holding onto them. On the floor below were several upturned lawnmowers. In order for one person to survive, the other had to let go of his or her lever and fall into the rotating blades. (Saw 3D)

History

Sidney and Alex' Test

The victims tested in this trap were Sidney, a young and insecure woman, and Alex, her abusive boyfriend who had frequently battered her throughout their relationship. After having been subdued and abducted, they found themselves suspended above the numerous lawnmowers and had to cling onto the levers, which slashed their hands. In panic, Sidney begged Alex to save them. He however tried to kick her of her lever without any hesitation. Realizing that she had no other choice, she slapped him in the face, causing him to fall down to his death, where his body was ripped apart by the rotating blades of the lawnmowers. As she was covered in his blood, Sidney began to scream. She had, however, survived and won her game and therefore, was ultimately able to leave unharmed. (Saw 3D)

Trivia

This is the only trap in the franchise whose creator is unknown.
It was never explained how Alex and Sidney awoke while dangling on the wires, or how Sidney escaped after winning against Alex.

Because the trap is only alluded to in the movie and is not shown in it's entirety, the description is offered by Sidney at a Jigsaw survivor's meeting. The couple appears together in the trap, clinging to two identical ladders made of razor wire, suspended above numerous upturned lawnmowers, whos rotory blades are angled up at the two. The aim of the game was to knock the person on the opposite ladder off of their ladder, which would cause them to fall onto the blades below. In the end, Sidney knocks Alex off of his ladAlex and Sidney holding on to their lifes der, somehow sparing her own life.
