After completing his tests, Jeff exited the abandoned plant and entered Jigsaw's lair. During the confrontation, Jigsaw gave Jeff the choice of killing him with one of various implements located on a tray before him and taking his revenge, or making the choice to forgive him. Unbeknownst to Jeff, the choice of killing Jigsaw would ultimately lead to Lynn's death (the woman who was now revealed to be Jeff's wife) as well, as Jigsaw's heart rate monitor had a flatline indicator that would activate the Shotgun Collar placed on Lynn. This final choice was the true aim of Jeff's Tests preceding it. In the end, Jeff claims that he forgives Jigsaw, but then chooses to take his revenge despite this, murdering Jigsaw by slicing his neck with an electric circular saw. Before Jigsaw succumbed to his injuries, he played one final tape for Jeff, informing him that he was responsible for the loss of Jeff's second child, his daughter Corbett, who Jigsaw had locked away with a limited air supply. The tape also left the possibility of a prearranged game that Jeff would have to undergo with the tape's final line, "and if you want to get her back, you'll have to play a game."

When the cancer disease of John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer, worsened and brought him closer and closer to death, he began to plan his last games. One of these games focused on Jeff Denlon, a man who suffered from severe depressions after the death of his 8-year-old son, Dylan, who had been killed by a drunk driver named Timothy Young in a car accident three years earlier. Due to his depressions, he neglected his wife and daughter, Lynn and Corbett Denlon, and instead indulged in his thoughts of revenge against the people he deemed responsible for his fate and the fate of his son. Due to this, one of John's apprentices, Detective Mark Hoffman abducted him from his house and took him to John's hideout at the abandoned Gideon Meatpacking Plant at 11235 Blake Drive, where he had to face a series of tests in order to overcome his vengefulness. Within the two hours given to him, he made his way through the building and thereby progressed through all three tests. After completing the third one, he ultimately reached a chain-link fence with a door, which was unfortunately locked. However, Jeff managed to open it with a key he had found right after the beginning of his game. Upon passing the door, he found a small box with a message which told him that this was his "Last chance". Glued the back of the message was a snippet of a photo, which showed his wife, Lynn. Furthermore, the box contained a gun. As Jeff had previously found a magazine and a single bullet, he inserted them in the weapon. Moments later, he went through another door and entered a large hall which resembled a workshop. As he went through the area, he heard voices coming from the next room. When he came closer, he was surprised when he finally saw his wife, Lynn, in the room. As the two of them noticed each other, Lynn immediately went to him but was shot in the back by Amanda Young, the distressed second apprentice of John Kramer. Angered by this, Jeff entered the room and shot Amanda in the throat before carefully deposing his wounded wife on the floor. As he comforted her, John, who lay on a makeshift bed in the same room, watched the death of his apprentice. As she was dying, he revealed to Amanda, who had held Lynn hostage all the time, that John had tested her as he had gained knowledge of her manipulating her games and thereby gave her victims no chance to survive. When she finally succumbed to her wound, John ended her game with a saddened "Game Over", remarking her failure. (Saw III)

After Amanda had died, Jeff aimed his gun at John. The latter berated him for not having learned anything from his test, stating that his thirst for vengeance would only harm his loved ones. Furthermore, he told him that he couldn't kill him. Despite this, Jeff eventually pulled the trigger, but didn't have any bullets left. John then told him that Lynn was about to die. When Jeff comforted her and promised to bring her home, she uttered that she loved him. John then warned him that she would die if he tried to bring her away and offered to call an ambulance. Jeff eventually agreed and asked John what he wanted in exchange for his help. John demanded one final test from him to see if he had overcome his obsession with revenge. Jeff could either kill him with the tools lying on a table in the room, or he could forgive John for all the pain he had caused him and his wife, proving that he had learned from his previous tests. Jeff got up, despite Lynn begging him to stay by her side, and grabbed a circular saw from the table. He then approached John and lay his hand on his chest, stating to forgive him. However, only seconds later he raised the saw and despite Lynn desperately yelling at him to stop, he eventually slashed John's throat, while claiming again that he had forgiven him. Seconds later, a collar around Lynn's neck, which was connected with John's heart rate monitor, was activated and the room's door slammed shut.

Original Ideas: Before settling on the final version of the Confrontation, the creators and writers of Saw III shot numerous different versions, all resulting in Jigsaw's death at the hands of Jeff. The only differences were the weapons of choice, among them the original circular saw blade that Jeff picked up before finding the high power saw. An alternate ending was also shot, using the concept of Lynn's "bomb" collar, which would detonate and shake the room following Jigsaw's death, knocking Jeff to the floor, unconscious. Upon awakening, Jeff would then find a tape, possibly the one Jigsaw played after his throat was slit in the given ending.

You haven't learned anything tonight, have you? Your rage and your vengeance will only hurt the ones you love. Killing me will only add to your misery, it will not bring back your son. Think of your daughter Jeff. She needs you now more than ever. You can't kill me, Jeff. Your wife's dying, Jeff. Her time's running out. Jeff, do not miscalculate. Your fate is in my hands. Your wife's fate is in my hands. Though you may not see any threat, there are threats all around you. Jeff, if you try to move your wife, she will die. I can have an ambulance here in four minutes. Would you like to take your wife out of here tonight? Would you like to take her to safety? Stand and face me Jeff. Right now. Would you like to get your life back? Would you, Jeff? I can make that happen. Which is it, Jeff? Come on, yes or no? One final test. The rules are simple. Jeff's death

If Jeff wanted to see her again, he had to play another game. When the message ended, John succumbed to his wounds, thereby activating Lynn's collar, which killed her by blowing off her head as soon as he flatlined. Angered and shocked by Lynn's death and the abduction of Corbett, Jeff furiously started to scream. As his own gun was empty, he grabbed the gun of the deceased Amanda Young and looked for a way out.
