Jill's pregnancy examination

At one point in her life, Jill Tuck, who ran the Homeward Bound Clinic, a recovery clinic for drug addicts, became pregnant by her husband, John Kramer, who was a successful civil engineer. John had already meticulously planned that their son should be born during the year of the pig in the Chinese zodiac. It was also him who gave their son his name, Gideon, the same name as John's first building. At some point, John obtained a new workshop that he proudly showed to Jill. Thereby, he showed her an old clock he had told her about and which was part of a deal he had made. This clock greatly fascinated him as the clockwork was almost 300 years old and still worked. As a surprise for her, he also presented Jill his self-made presents for Gideon, a cot and a wooden puppet, showing that he was just as devoted to his son as he was to his wife. (Saw IV)

Jill loses her child

One night, when Jill was about to leave the clinic, Cecil Adams, one of her patients, knocked at the security door at entrance, claiming that he had forgotten his jacket in the waiting room. After initially hesitating, Jill eventually went back and got him his jacket. However, upon doing so, Cecil pushed her back and threatened her with a knife, thereby forcing her to open the door to the clinic. After obeying his order, Cecil told her to stand back. However, Jill carefully approached the door. Just at this moment, Cecil came back with a bag of stolen medications and thereby accidently slammed a doorknob into Jill's stomach, who was in her seventh month of pregnancy at this time. As she saw the blood on her skirt, she slumped down and started to cry. Cecil tried to calm her down and asked her what happened. However, when he realized what he had done, he quickly fled, thereby leaving his girlfriend, Amanda Young, who had convinced him to the robbery, behind. Upon leaving the clinic, he was spotted by John, who sat in his car and had been waiting for Jill. Alerted by this, John ran into the clinic and found his wife. He brought her to the Angel of Mercy Hospital where he met Deborah, one of the nurses, who immediately took care of his wife. However despite all efforts the doctors weren't able to save the child. (Saw IV, VI)

Terracotta-Soldier

The soldier on Gideon's grave

Some time after Jill's miscarriage, John abducted Cecil and put him in a trap, which ultimately resulted in the latter's death. Afterwards, John took a small figure of a terracotta soldier, which Cecil had stolen during a Chinese street festival, from his corpse. Shortly afterwards, he visited Gideon's grave at the cemetery. While standing at the grave to be with his son, he took the soldier figure from his pocket and placed it on Gideon's tombstone. When his visit came to an end, he took the figure back before leaving his son. (Saw IV, VI)

Trivia[]

  • The scene in which John visits Gideon's grave was originally filmed for Saw IV but ultimately didn't make it into the final film. However, the soldier on Gideon's gravestone can be seen in Saw VI for a split second in the scene in which Jill Tuck watches an old video of her and John during an ultrasonography.
  • Jill wanted to call her child "Scarlet" if it would've been a girl.
