The Dog Leash is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw II: Flesh & Blood.

Design and Function[]

The victim of this trap had a collar around their neck. Attached to this collar was a metal chain, which in return was connected to a metal column. The length of the chain allowed the victim to move forward to a certain distance of only a few metres. At regular intervals, a mechanism was activated and the victim was pulled back again. The only way to free themselves was to take someone else with them to the column. The victim had several sharp, pointy razor blades pierced through their forearms. When they moved forward to grab someone, they had to be careful in order not to kill this person. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

History[]

Chuck's Test[]

Hello, Chuck. You are a drug dealer. When you were caught, you shifted the blame onto your best customer, Robert, in an attempt to receive a lighter sentence. You put a man in prison by your actions. But there is nobody to ease your burden now. You and Robert are forever bound by your actions, just as you are bound to this wall. Your only escape is to move forward and take someone with you back to the wall. But be gentle. Those are razor blades embedded in your arms. Live or die, Chuck.

The first victim of this trap was Chuck, a drug dealer, who once incriminated his best customer in order to receive a lighter sentence. After he was released from prison, he was targeted by John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer. He or one of his accomplices abducted Chuck and took him to an abandoned chemical plant, where he was prepared for his game and chained to a column in a small room. When he woke up, he realized that he was standing in a puddle of water. A recorded message left on an answering machine confronted him with his crimes and his betrayal of his costumer. It also told him, that the only way for him to free himself was to move forward and take someone else with him to the column. However, he was warned not to kill this person, which was difficult due to the razors in his arms.

Chuck attacks Michael

Shortly afterwards, another test subject, Michael Tapp, entered the room and attempted to pass it as part of his own game. Chuck however tried to prevent him from doing so and ran towards him to take him to the column. While trying to do so, he aggressively yelled at Michael and threatened to kill him. As Chuck was regularly pulled back by the chain, Michael embraced his opportunity and reached a set of four small combination locks. By bringing the four numbers in the right order, starting with the smallest number and concluding with the highest, Michael energized the water, which Chuck stood in. Moments later, Chuck was pulled back into the water again, where he was electrocuted. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Robert's Test[]

Hello, Robert. As an addict you trusted your drug dealer, Chuck, with your life. But your trust was misplaced and he sent you to prison for a crime you did not commit. In prison, your addiction became worse. You are chained to your addiction, just as you are chained to this wall. To break the cycle, you must move past your addiction and bring someone else with you to the wall. Ensuring they live will be tricky. You have razor blades embedded in your arms. Do not become a murderer, Robert.

Another victim of this trap was Robert, the drug addict who had been incriminated by Chuck. After having been abducted and prepared for the game, which took place inside an abandoned railway building, he woke up and found himself in the same situation as Chuck, with the difference that he awoke in the middle of a bigger room and was surrounded by explosive barrels. A recorded message left on an answering machine confronted him with his addiction and his relationship with Chuck. It also explained him the rules of his test, which were the same ones which had been given to Chuck earlier.

Robert

Roberts spots Michael

At some point after his awakening, a flammable substance, probably oil or kerosine, leaked from the barrels around him and catched fire. Shortly afterwards, Michael came across him and tried to pass the area. Just like Chuck, Robert immediately attacked him and frequently tried to kill him. Michael managed to evade his attacks and extinguished the fire, which blocked his path, by turning to valves on both sides of the room to activate the sprinklers on the ceiling. Afterwards, he ran past Robert and left the room. Just as he did, a roller door slammed shut behind him and Robert was killed in an explosion. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)
