Biography[]

Diego meets John.
The Pederson Project[]
The Pederson Project is a program comprised of a small group performing an experimental procedure that included surgery to cure people of fatal illnesses and diseases for large sums of two separate payments. It involves a group of medical experts that take their patients into an off-the-grid, isolated area outside of U.S. jurisdiction. After the procedure is finished, the patient is then required a special medication for the next week.
Under the Pederson Project Group, Diego serves as the taxi driver and provides transport to the Pederson Project patients to the rendezvous point. Diego is John Kramer's taxi driver and the first person of the Pederson Project operation that John meets in Mexico. Diego warmly welcomes John at the airport pickup and gives him a tour of Mexico City while on route to the rendezvous point.
The Surgery[]

Dr Cortez during John's surgery.
Unknown to John, Diego shows up to the facility as "Dr. Cortez,” the head surgeon of John’s operation who also works at Alto Prado with Mateo. During John’s "surgery", Mateo is seen assisting Dr. Cortez with injecting local anaesthetic into John's head where the surgery is being performed. Dr. Cortez suspiciously directs Valentina to turn the monitor featuring the supposed live feed of the operation away from John’s sight. When John found out the whole operation was a scam, Diego and all of the group become a target of John's vengeance and part of a personal game.
Life Outside The Pederson Project[]
In reality, Diego works as a taxi driver and tour guide to tourists in Mexico City. It is clear that he and his co-scammers Gabriela, Valentina and Mateo are all struggling finically as Cecilia seems to keep the majority of the money for herself and lives a lavish lifestyle in a large expensive mansion, while the others do not. It seems Cecilia and Parker picked people who were struggling finically or are vulnerable and suffer with addiction such as Gabriela.
Abduction[]
After the operation and abandoning the warehouse, Diego continues his real profession of being a taxi driver and tour guide. Diego is the first person John kidnaps, after Diego drops some tourists at the Tlaloc statue, John enters his taxi and chloroforms him, knocking him out and abducting him. Diego is then interrogated by John and ends up ratting out everyone from the Pederson Project, supplying John with the necessary information on his soon-to-be subjects. John tells him he will be playing a game after he has helped John out.

The Pipe Bomb Trap[]
After providing John with the information and whereabouts on his co-conspirators, Diego wakes up, tied up. He cuts through the rope and ends up pulling out a wire attached to him, a tape falls from above on a string and it explains to him he will need to cut out the pipe bombs on his arms, much to Diego's horror. Diego angrily screams at Kramer, searching for an exit to no avail. After a while of trying to find a way out without harming himself, he realizes that he will have to follow the rules and remove his "cancer" with his blades. Diego quickly digs into his right arm and pries the bomb off before kicking it away. He then starts cutting into his left arm, but with time running low, he rips the bomb out with his teeth and kicks it away as well. The bombs go off behind Diego as he takes foetal position. Diego survives his game with only 7 seconds remaining. After the bombs have gone off, John then approaches him with medical supplies and comforts him and tells him he is "going to be ok".
Personality[]
Diego appears as an outgoing and friendly cab driver, he refers to John as "J". He acts as a tour guide to his clients, interested in sharing with them, his knowledge about his country and it's history. As “Dr. Cortez”, he appears knowledgeable and professional during the procedure.
In reality, Diego is nothing more than a con artist and scammer. With his fellow workers and boss, Diego tricked several people in need into paying for fake treatments, leading them to leave the program under the belief that they had been cured when in reality they hadn't. When being interrogated by John, he was quick to rat everybody out, showing himself to be a coward.
