The Bomb Chair is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw II: Flesh & Blood.
Design and Function[]
This trap was originally a normal chair with a bomb attached underneath the seating surface. The victim was shackled to its armrests by two metal restraints. Once the game began, a 30-second-timer started to count down, causing the bomb to detonate once the time expired. To survive, the test subject had to rely on the help of a second person. In the next room was a row of four small combination locks attached to the wall. To free the victim from the chair, the second subject had to bring the four digits in the right order before the timer went off. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)
History[]
Michael Tapp's Test[]
“ | Hello, Griff. You were a promising college student until you became obsessed with a female professor who wanted nothing to do with you. But you persisted. Rape is a serious crime, Griff. It labels you as a sex offender, a ticking time bomb that nobody wants to be around. Kind of like the bomb you are attached to right now. The son of the officer that arrested you is your chance at survival. You blamed Detective Tapp for keeping you from your true love. Let us see if you can free yourself from your obsession long enough to survive. | ” |

The persons tested in this trap were Griff, a former student who had raped one of his professors, and Michael Tapp, the son of Detective David Tapp, who had arrested Griff after the incident. A recorded message left on an answering machine on a table next to Griff confronted him with his crimes and his subsequent conviction. It also told him, that the only person who could save him was Michael Tapp.

Griff in his trap
Shortly afterwards, Michael reached the area where Griff was trapped. Through a hole in the wall he could see Griff strapped to the chair. A TV turned on in front of him and a mechanical ventriloquist puppet appeared on screen, telling Michael that he didn't have much time to save Griff. Afterwards, a 30-second-timer started to count down. Right underneath it were the four small combination locks. Before the timer expired, Michael had to bring the four numbers in the right order, starting with the smallest number and concluding with the highest. If he failed to do so, Griff was killed by the bomb attached to his chair. However, if he brought the digits in the right order in time, Griff was freed from his restraints and had to open the combination lock of the next door, which would allow him to escape the room before the explosion. The necessary numbers appeared on the same TV screen as the puppet. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)
Trivia[]
