Covering Up Crimes[]
Angie Garza was a homicide captain working for the Metropolitan Police Department. Twelve years ago, before the events of Spiral, sometime after the Jigsaw murders, The Metropolitan PD were under a list of policies called Article 8, which gave them the legal means to do whatever was needed to stop crime. This allowed for corruption, which Fitch, Peter Dunleavy and Marv Bozswick they were aware of and participated in. Ezekiel Banks exposed the corruption in the department by revealing that an officer named Peter Dunleavy shot a man named Charlie Emmerson to death for being willing to testify against a corrupt cop, Fitch, like almost every other cop in the department, turned against him. However, she was part of a large scheme in order to cover-up all corruption in the police department. She and her friend Marcus Banks covered up all corruption in the Metro PD and shielded their officers from punishment. (Spiral)
Zeke's Undercover Robbery[]

Angie introduces Zeke to William
With his fellow officers against him, Zeke became hardened and distanced himself greatly. He refused to work with any new partners and instead investigated murders. He worked an unauthorized drug bust that quickly went south, leading to him being reprimanded by Garza, now the chief of the precinct. She was angered that he went undercover without any backup, though Banks was sure he couldn't trust anyone. Garza refused to believe that and instead gave him a new partner, an idealistic rookie, though Banks tried to argue against the assignment claiming he didn't want to babysit someone; unfortunately, Garza didn't give him a choice. She assigned him, and his new partner, to the homicide division once again. (Spiral)
Marv Bozwick's Death[]

Garza tells the station to get to work
When off-duty detective Marv Bozwick is gruesomely murdered in the subway tunnel, Banks is called to investigate alongside his new partner, Detective In-Training William Schenk. Banks draws similarities between Bozwick's death and the victims of the now deceased Jigsaw Killer. He determines that a man named Benny Wrights lured Bozwick into the tunnels. The dynamic between Banks and Schenk is initially rocky, as Banks is adamantly against the idea of a partner, while Schenk's seemingly optimistic outlook on life annoys Banks. He tries his best to minimize the amount of time they spend together, thought the increasing questions surrounding the subway murders makes it difficult. (Spiral)
Fitch's Death[]

Later on, Zeke, Will and Kraus then find Fitch's corpse at a bread factory, with Garza arriving at the crime scene later on. Detective Drury suspects that Banks is involved since both Boz and Fitch had connections to Banks. Schenk, however, agrees with Banks that someone else is pulling the strings and puppet mastering the events around them. William remained the only cop who believed Banks, and Captain Garza stood up for Zeke. (Spiral)

A box is later delivered to the station with a taunting note asking Banks if the killer was getting under his skin. Inside the box is a piece of Schenk's skin under a puppet inside the box. Zeke identifies the skin's owner via a distinctive tattoo. A vial inside the box that directs the detectives to a butcher shop. Banks recognizes the place as a hobby shop that he and his father visited when he was younger. After Ezekiel and O'Brien arrived at Constantine, along with numerous other officers, they entered the room where Benny's body (Who was still believed to be William's) was being examined by other cops, with Barrett and Jeannie Lewis reacting with horror and disgust after seeing the corpse.

Angie is abducted by William
When Officer Barrett was at a shop, he was attacked by a Figure in a Pig mask and was stabbed in the arm. He was later found by fellow officers and informed Detective Banks. However, Barrett's attack was used as a distraction to get the officers out of the precinct so that the killer could capture Garza. She receives a call from Marcus, (currently held hostage by the killer) asking her to retrieve an item from the evidence locker. Moments later, the room's heavy metal door slammed shut behind her, Angie immediately screamed for help and tried to shoot the lock when the killer threw several smoke grenades in her direction. In a last desperate attempt to attract her colleague's attention, she grabbed a phone to call for back-up but could not get anyone on the phone. Moments later, she inhaled the smoke and lost consciousness.
Test[]
Afterward, William took off her jacket and strapped Angie to the table he had already set up in the room. He put the cloth on her face and put the wax tank into position. When he had finished his preparations, William left the room and allowed Angie's game to play out. Upon waking up, Angie immediately panicked and tried to remove her restraints. While doing so, she found an audiotape lying next to her. As Angie played it, a distorted voice confronted her with her acts of covering up her fellow officer's corruption.
“ | Hello, Captain Garza. I want to play a game. You have covered up corruption in your department, never sticking your neck out for the innocent. Now, the cover-up will be on you. In a few seconds, boiling hot wax will be coming out of the pipe above you. The only way to stop yourself from being suffocated is to sever your spinal cord with the blade beneath your neck, which will stop the wax. You cannot walk away, but you can survive. Live or die, make your choice. | ” |

Garza in her trap
Angie was told that the hot wax would come out of the pipe above her once the game began and ultimately suffocate her if she did not shut off the faucet in time. To do so, she had to sever her spinal cord with the blade mounted onto the table right beneath her neck. When the tape was over, the wax immediately started pouring on her face, burning her skin and causing Angie to scream in fear and agony. Although she repeatedly tried to cut through her spine, she merely inflicted several deep flesh wounds on herself. Angie manages to successfully sever her spine but eventually, the wax covers her entire head, making it impossible for her to breathe. (Spiral)
Post-Mortem[]

Angie's Corpse
Banks realized she's been abducted and was next on the copycat's kill order and tried to find her. He doesn't arrive in time and discovers her corpse; her face is covered in wax, while her spinal cord was severed. Her death devastates Banks, but also gives him a lead. He realizes that the killer must know intimate knowledge of the police station to pull off the abduction. Banks also learns that his father, Marcus Banks, is officially missing as no one can locate him. Detective O'Brien suspects that Marcus is working with the copycat killer. (Spiral)
Personality[]
Angie was a strong-willed and strict police captain, who stood up for Zeke when needed. Garza tried her to solve the case and catch murder, but when further investigating she decided not to request for backup leading to her abduction and death. Although she was a corrupt woman who covered up crimes, she stated that Pete was a scumbag after Zeke turned him and said that Zeke would get a medal and be a hero.
Trivia[]
- Angie Garza was originally written as male police captain but was made female when the producers opted to cast Marisol Nichols.
- It is currently unknown whether or not Angie and Marcus covered up Fitch shooting Jimmy Lincoln or not.
