Acid corrodes metal as well as flesh. Whatever happens to this man is a result of how you direct the acid.

The Acid Vat is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw II: Flesh & Blood.

Design and Function[]

The victim of this trap was locked up inside a cage. Right in front of the cage was a large vat filled with corrosive acid. The door of the cage was secured by a chain, which was strung across the room. Suspended above it was an acid drip. A second test subject had to destroy the chain in order to open the door. To do so, the second person had to direct the acid from the drip with a valve so it would melt the chain. However, if the valve wasn't turned carefully enough, the acid from the drip would cause the acid from the vat to splash over, thereby scarring the person in the cage. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

History[]

Michael Tapp's Test[]

Hello, Anton. You were a mercenary for hire, specializing in terror. Your particular method of choice is throwing corrosive acid on the faces of your victims. This ensures that, even if they live, they have no chance to surgically repair their faces, leaving them forever scarred. Time to see what that's like. There is an acid drip on the chain to your cage. The son of the officer that put you in prison will decide whether you escape unharmed or you burn like your victims. You had better hope he has a steady hand, Anton.

The persons tested in this trap were Anton, a mercenary who used to scar his victims by throwing acid at their faces, and Michael Tapp, a dishonest reporter and son of David Tapp, a discharged detective formerly working for the Metropolitan Police Department, who committed suicide after having been unable to arrest John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer. After having been abducted by Jigsaw or one of his accomplices, Anton was taken to an abandoned chemical plant. When he woke up, he found himself trapped in the cage with the vat of acid right before its door. A recorded message left on an answering machine confronted him with his crimes. It also told him that the only person who could free him was Michael Tapp, who was somehow responsible for his early release from prison. Once Anton was free, he was told to give Michael a key, which the latter needed to progress in his own series of tests. Afterwards, he just had to wait where he was so his brother, who was abducted as well, would remain unharmed.

The next room holds a criminal released by your actions. He holds a key that you need to progress. But be careful, he doesn't play nice.

Anton in his cage

After listening to the message, Anton frantically screamed for help. Eventually, Michael came across the area where he was trapped. Anton yelled at him to free him from the cage. After a few minutes, Michael obtained a valve, which he used to direct the acid from the drip above the chain. Depending on the player's choice, there were two different outcomes. If Michael turned the valve too fast, the acid from the drip would cause the acid from the pool to splash over, thereby scarring Anton. This would cause him to attack Michael, who would then be forced to kill him in self-defense. However, if Michael turned the valve slowly and carefully, the acid from the drip would destroy the chain and free Anton from his cage. Afterwards, Anton would thank Michael for his salvation and hand him the key. Then, he'd kneel down, praying for his brother's well-being. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)
